J.27/ Enhance your liver function
Have you ever tried a liver cleanse or a detox before? Doing a cleanse is a great way to boost your elimination pathways and rid your body of toxins. Boosting your liver function is a great way to help your general wellbeing.
Doing a liver detox can be a great idea to do every 6 months or annually, this allows you to enhance your liver function to help boost your elimination pathways. Detoxing can be undertaken if you’ve overindulged in your diet, generally eat more processed foods, regularly drink alcohol, wanting to boost your fertility, your work environment has high toxicity loads, you’re wanting to improve your gut health or help with weight maintenance. It’s always important to speak with a health professional before starting a detox, this will ensure it’s safe for you, personalised to your needs and you can find out about a safe duration.
If you decide doing a cleanse is right for you it’s best to eat as clean as possible while doing the detox, this means aiming for no processed foods, no caffeine and no alcohol and a bonus would be eating organic. Drink plenty of filtered water as this will help flush the toxins from your system, aim for at least 2L of water per day. Exercise can also be helpful during a cleanse as this will help new oxygenated blood flow to areas of your body. Exercise can be a daily walk or it can be hitting the gym, just do what you feel comfortable with and what is ‘normal’ exercise for yourself.
Detoxes can involve your liver, kidneys or gut, think all your elimination pathways and what we’re trying to do is improve their functions to help rid your body of toxins. Detoxing can be quite gentle this can be done by using low doses and using simple herbs and nutrients to aid these pathways. I think when people think liver detox they think it’s fasting, feeling unwell, low energy, high intensity and short duration, but it doesn’t always have to be that way. I definitely don’t recommend doing a detox for more than 3-4 weeks but there’s definitely ways to get great results without having such extreme symptoms.
Before deciding if I think a client needs a detox I conduct a thorough initial consultation, this involves asking a lot of questions about all your different body systems such as gut health, sleep, immune system, your hormones and more. During this consult I also find out from the client what their expectations are for their health and we work together to achieve the goal. From there they receive a personalised treatment plan which entails their supplements, diet and lifestyle advice and any follow up information I may need. I always give a duration for the treatment plan as well as things change and over time you may not need the same supplements.
