J.15/ Achieving Wellness
Becoming the healthiest version of yourself can be quite the journey. Understanding where the underlining issues are and how you can fix them requires extensive knowledge of the human body.
Achieving total wellbeing is different for each individual, we all require different things to help our bodies function. Sometimes it is as simple as changing up your diet, for others it requires more investigation to help the body achieve wellness. Seeking professional help is often needed for more difficult cases and that is where I come in. A Naturopath treats the body as a whole and finds the root of the issue and then provides the body with the right nourishment to balance the body again.
It’s no easy task for some to achieve wellness, you also have to ask yourself what wellness means for you. Is it being strong in a physical sense, not getting sick, reducing bloating, healing emotional wounds? It’s different for each of us, that is why it’s a great idea to have clear goals in mind of what you would like to truly achieve.
Quite often I have clients coming to see me to make sure they are on the right track of being healthy, this usually entails going through their diet, checking their symptoms and seeing what supplements/medications they are taking. A great diet is personalised to that individual as we all have different needs, but as a base line I check the quantity of protein, carbohydrates, fats and micronutrients the individual is having alongside their physical activity to make sure it all lines up. As a general rule for diet I like to say enjoy a variety of foods, ensure you’re having lots of fruit and vegetables, good quality protein with most meals and a source of good fats. Ensure you’re having adequate water intake too as this will help keep your body hydrated. It’s okay to treat yourself to processed foods at times but I do recommend that it’s no more than 10% of your diet.
There’s not always a need for supplements I generally just see what is missing in the diet and/or if the client has any major symptoms. As a general guide I like to keep things minimal in my treatment plans and not overwhelm the patient. This means just prescribing what the client actually needs and will benefit from.
Wellness merely isn’t just diet and supplements it’s also looking after your mental health and physical health. Do things that make you happy, try and fill your cup daily of things you love to do even if it’s just something small. If you’re finding your feeling overwhelmed or stressed, then it’s important to seek help and rely on your support network to help you. Daily movement will not only help you physically but also mentally as well, finding the time to do some exercise at least for 30 minutes will significantly help you achieve wellness in your body.
While it can be overwhelming and confusing to figure out what your body needs for yourself it’s important to check in with a professional to help you find the way as it’s our job to help you feel better. Using diet adjustments, lifestyle advice, supplements and herbal medicine I can help you improve your health and wellbeing.
